How Can You Tell if Your Toilet is Low Flow or Not?

We have generally FOUR different sizes toilets in Southern California, which are located below. It is relatively easy to tell the low flow toilets ones from the non-low flow types.

Super old 5.0 gallons per flush.

Found in approx 2% of all homes in Southern California. Very rare to find, especially in this condition and color. Huge tank, the size of a fish tank. Classic and hard to find.

This toilet runs over $1,000 on eBay or Etsy as its a classic and pretty rare.

Less old 3.5 gallons per flush.

Found in approx. 5% of all homes in Southern California. Not common to find, but still around. Circa 1965-1990.

Less old 2.5 gallons per flush.

Found in approx 5% of all homes in Southern California. Not common to find, but still around. Circa 1990. This model is a Kohler Rialto.

Typical 1.6 gallons per flush.

Found in approx. 80% of all homes in Southern California. Very common. Most homes have this toilet.

Newer 1.28 gallons per flush. Current model in CA.

This is the current toilet one would purchase at Home Depot or elsewhere if you were to buy one. This is now the mandated GPF (gallons per flush) by the state of California, more info here on that.

Found in approx. 10%+ of all homes in Southern California. All new construction has this type of toilet.
