1960 – 1975 – 3.5 Gallons per flush toilets
1975 – 1990 – 2.5 Gallons per flush toilets
1990 – 2014 – 1.6 Gallons per flush toilets
And as of 2017, one can only purchase 1.28 Gallons per flush toilets in the state of California. These are considered ‘ultra low’ flow toilets. Currently one can purchase 1.1 GPF and less custom toilets also.

I’m selling my Los Angeles apartment bldg which currently have 1.6 gal toilets. Is there an ordinance requiring me to replace 1.6 for 1.28 gal toilets ?
1.6 GPF, or gallons per flush, is OK with the city of LA when selling for apartments, condos or single family residences.
