Our best overall smoke detector that we recommend is the Kidde!
The new line of ‘DETECT” detectors from Kidde back in 2025 we find to be most reliable. Kidde is typically available only at Home Depot and Amazon. Kidde detectors are not currently available at Lowes.
Kidde detectors appear to us to be manufactured better than the First Alert brand, which is still a great brand. Overall if you were to stick with one brand of detector for your home and family, we would recommend. Kidde over all others.

Note: Make sure you get the correct ones. Do not get the ‘hard wired’ type detectors if you do not have an electrical box to connect it to.
