1 – Amazon – Top Pick – You can’t beat the price or convenience. All carbon monoxide detectors will be CA compliant, but not all smoke detectors. Make sure any smoke or combo detector that is powered solely by batteries must contain 10 year type batteries that are non-replaceable. More here on that.
2- Home Depot – Any California Home Depot will only carry CA compliant smoke and combo detectors. Same goes for carbon monoxide detectors.
3 – Lowes– Any California Lowes will only carry CA compliant smoke and combo detectors. Same goes for carbon monoxide detectors.

Avoid buy smoke detectors on Ebay, Temu or other similar discount shopping sites. Many of the Chinese built cheap detectors on these sites are not UL-approved, not California compliant, and many simply do not work even thought they may be inexpensive. Also avoid small hardware stores, some we have noticed do stock non-compliant smoke detectors, probably out of sheer ignorance.
